Our next day trip on our summer vacation took us to Philadelphia. I had been wanting to go for a long time, in fact we almost did last summer before I came to the realization that walking that much in the heat+ being 8 months pregnant = not a fabulous idea! So luckily for us, my aunt's house was only 2 hours away and we were able to check out the sites of Philly all in one day!
Our first stop was Reading Terminal Market...where we had some famous (and fabulous) 4th Street Cookies....
Nate and I also love the show Man vs. Food. When he went to Philadelphia, he ate here (which is also at the market)And we ate the Italian Pork Sandwich with Broccoli Rabe. It was wonderful...I recommend it!
And Tuck checking out the lobsters...
Kind of a random picture, but I found this interesting. We were driving down one of the main streets in the city, and cars PARK in the median, instead of use it as a turning lane...crazy! Also, all the old streets downtown have a 5 or 6 street intersection....it gets a little confusing at times!
Then we drove past the famous Geno's and across the street was Pat's Cheesesteaks...but didn't eat at either...
Then the historical stuff....this is the foundation of George Washington's house...
And you maybe can guess what comes next...
The Liberty Bell...crack and all!
Across the street was Independence Hall, which we never got to go inside of (didn't know you had to book tours well in advance :)
And then to Ben Franklin's House
A part of me wishes they would have re-created some of these places rather than just outlining how they would have been...oh well, still cool to see
Then on to the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Eye of the Tiger
Nate and Tuck running up, getting some exercise!
Oh how boys love their Rocky movies :)
Here's the museum
And what would a trip to Philly be without a Philly Cheesesteak? We drove on over to Tony Luke's for a taste, along with a crowd of Philadelphia Phillies fans. In proper ordering technique, you order your steak 'wit' or 'witout' onions....just in case you ever get here!
And Nate's 3rd baseball game of the trip...Citizen's Bank Park, home of the Phillies!
We had to leave early because of the boys....which stunk because it ended up being an exciting game after we left! Oh well...maybe another day we can stay for a whole game.
And a drive past Love Park....gotta love it!
